Auburn schools approve FY27 budget with $100,000 reduction

School Committee · Meeting of March 4, 2026

Auburn schools approve constrained FY27 budget, reducing positions and adjusting salaries amid town pressure. The School Committee unanimously approved the fiscal 2027 budget with a 3.92 percent increase after absorbing a $100,000 spending reduction requested by town leadership. Superintendent Beth Chamberland left five positions unfilled, capped salaries at Bachelors Step 1 rather than Masters Step 2 for a $7,000 per-position savings, and secured a $30,000 Athletics Department offset.

The Committee also unanimously filed a DESE waiver to exempt students from making up instructional time lost during February's two-day school closure.
