Auburn Select Board splits on license plate camera grant

Auburn Select Board votes 3-2 to accept license plate camera grant amid privacy concerns. The board approved an $18,250 Byrne grant for six Flock Safety license plate cameras, with Vice Chair Todd M. Kirrane and Member Sara K.
Rufli opposed. Ms. Rufli raised concerns about data access under the Massachusetts Shield Act, particularly regarding reproductive healthcare.
Police Chief R. Scott Mills stated the department would control data sharing and comply with state law. The board unanimously approved authorization to apply for $250,000 in Dam and Seawall Repair funding for Leesville Pond Dam improvements and accepted a MassDOT program providing speed feedback signs and a mobile trailer at no cost.
