Auburn transfers $85,489 for special education placements

Select Board · Meeting of February 9, 2026

Auburn Select Board unanimously approves $85,489.28 transfer for special education out-of-district placements. Superintendent Dr. Elizabeth Chamberland explained that four students enrolled late and required out-of-district placements with tuition costs not accommodated in the current budget.

The district is working with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education on potential LEA placements for two students that could reduce costs if another municipality shares responsibility. The Board issued commendations to DPW employee Matte McGarry for life-saving actions during the snow storm, to Auburn Police Deputy Chief Ken Charlton, Officer Randy Hawley, Officer Matt Laskes, Officer Brandyn Geldart, and Firefighter/Paramedic Scott Davis for the Spencer incident response, and appointed John Shea and Christian Adamiak to the Zoning Board of Appeals.
