Economic Development Committee rejects EDIC proposal

Economic Development Committee · Meeting of January 15, 2026

Auburn Economic Development Committee rejects economic development corporation proposal over unemployment threshold. The committee determined Auburn's 4.5 percent unemployment rate falls below the 6 percent minimum required to establish an EDIC, and zoning restrictions at the proposed Camp Gleason site prohibit commercial and retail uses. Committee members also noted the town's 2017 economic development plan lacks EDIC designation.

Patrick Jones was appointed recording secretary clerk in a unanimous 5-0 vote, nominated by Vice-Chair Lindsay Baker and seconded by Michael Villa. The committee requested that Assistant Town Manager and Director of Economic Development Paul Dell'Aquila research comparable communities' tax classification approaches and gather statistics from towns such as Grafton and Shrewsbury.
