Select Board approves wage theft prevention policy for construction

Auburn Select Board unanimously approves wage theft prevention policy for construction projects. The Wage Theft Committee, chaired by Patrick Jones, developed the policy to protect taxpayers and discourage wage violations on large public works. Under the policy, violations determined by state or court authority can result in liquidated damages up to five percent of contract value and permanent disqualification from bidding.
Contractors with documented wage violations within the past five years may be deemed unqualified, creating a lawful mechanism to reject non-qualified bidders under Massachusetts procurement law.
