Auburn School Committee posts superintendent job as search begins ahead of retirement

AUBURN — August 20, 2025 — Auburn School Committee opens superintendent search with October 31 application deadline. The committee voted unanimously at its August 20 meeting to approve a job description for a new superintendent to replace retiring Dr. Chamberlain, moving the posting deadline up one month from the original November 30 draft. Committee member Meg, who is chairing the search, said recruiting superintendent candidates in Massachusetts can be competitive and that starting early improves the odds of finding a strong hire. A community survey of roughly 233 respondents found that 91 percent rated "strong communicator and listener" as the most important quality in a new superintendent, with academic excellence and student mental health ranking as the top district priorities. The committee also unanimously approved updated student handbook language on dress code and curriculum opt-outs, the latter prompted by the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling in Mahmud v. Taylor, before adjourning into executive session to address a grievance filed by the Auburn Educational Association.
