Planning Board continues inclusionary zoning bylaw amendment
Planning Board · Meeting of June 23, 2026
Auburn Planning Board continues deliberations on inclusionary zoning bylaw amendment for residential developments. Chair Jason Asirifi and board members voted unanimously to continue work on a proposed bylaw requiring 15 percent affordable units in developments of 10 or more dwelling units, at 80 percent of area median income. That affordability target, roughly $1,800 to $2,000 monthly rent, stems from the town's 2024 housing production plan and aims to help Auburn exceed Chapter 40B safe harbor thresholds; the town currently stands at approximately 11 percent affordable housing.
Town Planner Rose Russell and board members raised questions about anti-segmentation language, the municipality's right of first refusal timing, and site-plan recording provisions.
