Auburn Finance Committee Approves Over $83,000 in Year-End Budget Transfers

AUBURN — May 5, 2026 — Auburn Finance Committee approves more than $83,000 in year-end transfers across eight departments. The committee, chaired by Kevin W. Kennedy, voted unanimously on every transfer request at its May 5 meeting, including $24,500 to the Police Department's overtime account to cover shift-filling costs from a four-officer staffing shortage and special events. A $30,000 DPW fleet transfer addressed the repair of Truck 48, a 2014 International dump truck whose repair grew from an EGR cooler issue to a full radiator replacement. Two aging road sweepers — a 2010 and a 2014 model — remain in uncertain condition pending repair estimates, and a DPW representative warned the committee: "We're not going out looking for stuff to do — we're trying to just make sure that what we need to use to continue to operate for the remainder of the year is working." The Police Department also flagged that the town's June 30 fireworks event, recently moved back into FY26, will require a separate transfer before funds can be encumbered.
