AUBURN — The Auburn School Committee approved revised capital improvement plans and froze discretionary spending amid tight budget conditions. Business Manager Stanek reported the district had used 95.2 percent of its budget as of October 7 and said she "frozen the budget for discretionary spending" while contract negotiations continue. Members unanimously approved a $1 million fiscal year 2032 capital plan, with field and modular classroom costs still to be added, and a revised fiscal year 2028 plan that repurposes $75,000 at Packachog Elementary for interior repairs and $25,000 at Swanson Road for restroom upgrades.
The fiscal year 2028 plan heads to Town Meeting in May. A proposed policy letting the superintendent accept gifts up to $25,000 without a committee vote was discussed but not finalized, with Stanek asked to research comparable district policies.
