Auburn School Committee fast-tracks emergency immigration enforcement policy
School Committee · Meeting of September 2, 2026
Auburn School Committee suspends review process to adopt emergency immigration policy. At incoming Superintendent Dr. Scazza's first meeting, the committee voted unanimously to bypass its standard three-reading review and immediately adopt Policy ACL, barring civil immigration enforcement from school property without a judicial or state warrant, under the state's new Protect Act.
A subcommittee member said the change came from Massachusetts Association of School Committees field director Ms. Novak "since it is state law." The committee also approved a $125,351 increase to its October 27 Fall Town Meeting warrant article, raising the request to $34,093,485 to fund a one-year special education co-teaching position and the salary of incoming Director of Pupil Services Kristen Campioni. Scazza opened the meeting by reporting a student had gone missing from an Auburn school that afternoon and was found safe, thanking Police Chief Mills and staff.
