Auburn School Committee unanimously appoints R.J. Scaza as next superintendent

AUBURN — December 17, 2025 — Auburn School Committee unanimously appointed Robert "R.J." Scaza as the district's next superintendent, effective July 1, 2026. The vote came at the December 17 meeting following a search process that drew 21 applicants and involved community focus groups at every school. Chair Brooke Parker said the committee is "confident in his ability to lead the district forward" and acknowledged the retirement of current Superintendent Dr. Chamberlain with visible emotion. The committee also approved the FY27 school calendar — setting the last day of school for June 17 after Juneteenth's new federal holiday status forced a half-day adjustment the Wednesday before Thanksgiving — adopted the IKFE graduation competency determination policy requiring a course grade above 65 for the class of 2027 and beyond, accepted a $5,000 anonymous donation to the middle school, approved a round of budget transfers, and assigned three members to upcoming bargaining teams for secretaries, custodians, and instructional assistants.
